Almost half of Canadian hosted travel agents report they are earning more now than when they worked in an agency or call center, according to a recent nationwide survey that was commissioned by The Travel Agent Next Door.
The agents cited the ability to keep more of the commission on their sales, the ability to spend less time commuting, having tax advantages of running their own business and being more focused on selling and service all contributed to earning more and spending less.
The survey provides a clear understanding of why so many experienced agents are choosing to go home based in the last five years. Over 60 per cent of the agents surveyed were experienced agents before deciding to go home based.
Astounding 92 per cent say they have a better work life balance
Another astonishing finding was that 92 per cent of respondents said they believe they have a better work life since becoming an at home hosted agent. Work life balance is a known factor in people choosing to work from home.
The agents surveyed were affiliated with eight different host agencies across Canada, with about 12 per cent not divulging who they were associated with.
“This is just the beginning of really understanding hosted agents and their needs,” said Flemming Friisdahl, founder of The Travel Agent Next Door. “We will continue to invest in third party independent surveys to understand this growing market and how best to serve them.”
He said The Travel Agent Next door will continue to share findings from these surveys with the industry and with suppliers.
